CrossFit Games Open
October 10 – November 11
The CrossFit Games Open is an awesome time of the year at CrossFit Imperial Valley. A large part of our community gets together and for 5 weeks they push each other to new levels. It might be a scary thought, yet hundreds of thousands of CrossFitters around the world will participate with you in the Open. The workouts are unknown. Each week, for 5 weeks (Oct 11 – Nov 8), an Open workout will be announced on Thursday and will be completed by the following Monday.
The Open is for everyone no matter their fitness level!
There are multiple categories designed to accommodate everyone according to their gender, age and fitness level.
Our Open workouts will be scheduled weekly by Naldy. Every week you’ll need to select a time slot to do your workout. Please show up early to warm-up, help judge, take pictures and cheer everyone on!

FRIDAY NIGHT LIGHTS
To make it even more fun we are having a Friday Night Lights for the first and last Open Workouts. Friday Night Lights is an event where everyone participating in the Open comes to do their Open Workout in a Throwdown environment. Family and friends are welcome to come cheer you on as you go hard. During the event we will have a DJ playing, a Potluck and entertainments for kids to enjoy.
The Open Workouts have an individual score, nevertheless, to make it more interesting, we bring a team concept to the Open. This will bring athletes of all abilities together in teams that will compete for points. At the end of the Open, the team with the most points will be crowned the winner and will receive a PRIZE!
On Wednesday, October 8th, Trainers: Cortney, Brianna, Kristi and Melaky will equally divide Open athletes into four teams. They will be the team Captains. All athletes who are registered for the CrossFit Games Open before that date will be automatically put into the Draft pool.
The Team Captains will complete the selection of the participating members using a lottery system. They will draw a turn from a hat. Team Captains will rotate turns and draft athletes from the pool. We will release all the details of the Draft on Thursday, October 10th, so you can find out what team you are on.
Anyone who sign ups for the Open after the Draft will be assigned to a team in the same order that the Team Captains used to draft the other members.
As soon as you register for the Open, forward your confirmation email to naldy@ crossfitimperialvalley.com to participate in the Draft.
+5 Points – Workout Completion
Every member of a team that completes an Open workout at CrossFit Imperial Valley AND submits their score online to the CrossFit Games website each week earns 5 point. Maximum 5 points per athlete per workout. This will produce the most points for each team!
+10 Points – Workout Completion at Friday Night Lights
Every member of a team who completes an Open workout during our Friday Night Lights will receive 10 extra point.
+50 Points – To the team with the largest attendance at Friday Night Lights
The team with the most members working out at Friday Night Lights will receive 50 extra point. In the case that there’s a tie or that teams have perfect attendance they will each receive 50 points.
+1 Point – Top 5 Rx
Every male AND female member who places among the Top 5 at CrossFit Imperial Valley for each workout under the Rx category receives an extra point for their team.
+1 Point – Top 5 Scaled
Each week, every male AND female member who places among the Top 5 at CrossFit Imperial Valley under the Scaled category gets an extra point for their team. Teens and Master will complete workouts under their categories, but they will be ranked under the Scaled category.
+1 Point – Top 5 Judges
Each week, the top 5 individuals who judge the most athletes will earn an extra point for their team.
+5 Point – New PR
Every athlete who achieves a personal record during an Open workout will receive 5 point. Each week when the workouts are released we will publish the PR rules.
+5 Points – Number of Judges
By Monday, October 14, each person that takes and passes the Judge’s Course will earn 5 points for their team. This $10 course will help you as an athlete to understand “range of motion”, reps vs. no reps, and the standards for each workout. It will also help us ensure that there are sufficient judges for everyone who participates and that movement standards are being upheld. All judges must forward the Judge’s Course certificate to firstname.lastname@example.org by the deadline to earn points. If you already have your judges certificate from the 2019 Open please email Naldy to claim your points.
+5 Points – Spirit of the Open
Each week we will pick one athlete who displays amazing SPIRIT during that week’s workouts. You’ll find this person cheering others on, helping people get prepared, volunteering to judge others, doing something amazing they never thought possible, gaining a new skill, etc.
+10 Points – Team Spirit
Each week the team with the most Crossfit Open related pictures posted on instagram and/or facebook will be awarded 10 extra points. For the post to qualify it must tag CrossFit Imperial Valley and use the hashtag: #TEAMNAMECFIVOPENWOD
